Pilates and Chiropractic care can be coupled to provide the client with the best of both worlds to strengthen and stabilize their body – especially if recovering from an injury. Pilates can help strengthen and stabilize weak and injured areas from inside out as it addresses the structural imbalances that can cause pain in certain areas. In addition, Pilates focuses heavily on alignment – how body parts line up in relation to each other. Combined with Chiropractic care, this can help increase awareness of proper alignment and with continued practice, overcome injury and train the body to become stronger and familiar with correct alignment to prevent future injury.

The History of Pilates
Joseph Pilates, a German gymnast, was the founder and creator of the Pilates Method. He was a teacher of “physical culture” and developed a system of corrective exercises known as “Contrology” which captured the essence of utilizing the body, mind and spirit as one. The Mat work, which is the basis of the system, captures just that. Joe later designed series of apparatus, including the famous Universal Reformer, Cadillac, and Wunda Chair, etc., to provide corrections to posture and form with the assistance of springs to create resistance. These apparatuses he created will eventually help those who perform his Mat sequence without any support of the springs.
Joe states that “physical fitness can neither be acquired by wishful thinking nor by outright purchase.” He viewed the method as a lifestyle and a disciplined approach to help restore one’s overall health, physically and mentally. He further stated that “Contrology develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, elevates the spirit.” He believed his method would end human suffering and positively impact the world. “I must be right. Never an aspirin. Never injured a day in my life. The whole country, the whole world, should be doing my exercises. They’d be happier.”
